Description

Legal Counsel with the drive and capacity to handle international contracts

Are you ready for a challenging job in a truly global company in the offshore industry? We are looking for a commercially minded and dynamic addition to our office with several years’ experience as either an in-house attorney or as a practicing lawyer in a private firm.

NOV is a worldwide leader in the design, manufacture and sale of equipment and components used in oil and gas drilling and production, the provision of oilfield inspection and other services, and supply chain integration services to the upstream oil and gas industry.

As our Legal Counsel, you will leverage your experience and interest in international contract law with a solid, working knowledge of the law to be a commercially minded and dynamic addition to our office in Broendby, Denmark. You provide legal assistance to the European NOV entities. We enjoy an effective decision-making process and an open and informal culture, where high quality standards, sparring, teamwork, dedication, flexibility and a good sense of humor are important elements.

Give legal guidance to a business that helps power the world

Much of the work you will advise on is project-oriented in nature. This means that no two days will be the same, and you will leverage your considerable experience and stellar educational background to take the lead to identify and advise the tender team on steps to mitigate potential contractual, insurance and commercial risks.

You will also review and qualify general and special conditions contained within client invitations to tender, and you will attend calls and meetings as required with prospective clients and major suppliers to negotiate and arrive at acceptable terms and conditions of contract.

As needed, you will instruct the external legal counsel, and an important part of your job will be providing guidance to contracts, supply chain and project personnel on contractual wording/risk mitigation and advising on contractual interpretation.

Finally, you will draft, review and revise:

  • Confidentiality agreements, mutual hold harmless agreement and other legal documents relating to tenders
  • Terms and conditions of general commercial, frame and service contracts
  • General legal agreements including leases, co-operations agreements, representation agreements, exclusivity agreements

Your profile: Strong with contracts. Good with people.

  • Qualified lawyer (either Danish, English or German qualified)
  • Qualifications or work experience from other jurisdictions in Europe is an advantage
  • Experience of reviewing and advising on tendering contracts as well as actual contract negotiation
  • Relevant previous experience in a commercial / contracting environment with strong commercial awareness and effective negotiation skills
  • Attorney or inhouse counsel experience for a manufacturing/tech, engineering, construction and/or oil & gas experience.
  • You have a good commercial understanding and strong negotiation skills. We expect you to have an analytical mind-set and work methodically with high quality assurance while always focusing on the commercial value of your advice. It is important for us that you have flair for achieving and maintaining an overview of contractual obligations and legal risks identification and handling in general. To put these competencies to the best use, we expect you to have a strong personality, perseverance and the necessary gravitas to be able to communicate and advise at all organizational levels.
  • With NOV entities located all over Europe and customers comprising some of the world’s major oil companies, it is important that you are fluent in written and spoken English at negotiation level. It is an advantage, but not a requirement, if you master other European languages.

We offer you

  • A dynamic and informal working environment with dedicated colleagues
  • Varying and challenging assignments
  • Professional standards with good opportunities for personal and professional development
  • A salary package matching your experience and qualifications, including company paid pension scheme, healthcare insurance and group life insurance
