The Role

As a Surveyor you will carry out surveys and certification of materials, equipment and components. In addition surveys on existing ships will be part of your role. You are responsible to ensure that these surveys are carried out and reported in accordance with applicable Rules and Regulations and other Codes, Standards or Conventions as well as Lloyd’s Register’s procedures.

This challenging role comes with a high level of responsibility. You will need the ability to think on your feet and make informed decisions when dealing with queries and issues. You are expected to identify opportunities to improve our service delivery and assist in developing and implementing relationships internally and externally to grow our business.

You will carry out your work in a safe and responsible manner and assist our clients to improve their safety performance.

As part of a dynamic team, you will be able to develop your experience and knowledge as well as contribute to the development of the team. Training as necessary will be provided. You are expected to keep up to date with developments in the marine industry, using both internal and external sources.

You will:

Contribute day-to-day specialist knowledge and assess complex problems - finding a range of alternative solutionsLead surveys on specific high risk activitiesWork out a cost structure for each customer and assess the design, production, in-service aspects of engineering assets for complex and demanding situationsContinue your professional development and maintain discipline, knowledge and awareness and mentor or coach colleagues as appropriateConduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards

Key Health & Safety Responsibilities:

Eliminate or minimise employee's exposure to risks by reviewing, regularly, the health and safety risk register, applying appropriate controls, communicating results of risk assessment and ensuring health and safety is considered in the planning and execution of all LR activities.

Manage your own and your team's compliance with health and safety rules, instructions, systems and legal requirements, ensuring employees are suitably trained and adequate resources are available to work safely.

Monitor and review health and safety performance, observe safety behaviours in the workplace, taking appropriate corrective and preventative action as necessary and suggesting and implementing improvement activities.

You will need:

A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyd’s Register within the relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum of two years programme) or Qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant sea-going experience as a certificated ship’s officer;Knowledge and experience of Classification rules and regulations, SOLAS, MARPOL & MLC regulations and other essential statutory requirements for marine survey work;Experience in marine electrical engineering is an advantage;Ability to effectively plan and organise workload;Good interpersonal and communication skills;To work in accordance with professional codes of conduct and the LR Code of Ethics in IMS01;Proficiency in English - a satisfactory knowledge of Norwegian is an advantage;A full driving licence valid in Norway;The right or ability to obtain the right to work in Norway.
