Local Unit & Position Description:

DNV – Maritime Ship Classification is seeking an expert withing Radio and Navigation to join our Statutory Support unit in Høvik (Section: M-ST-NT).

Technical Support Norway is organized into 9 sections whereby 6 of these units are in Høvik along with 3 technical helpdesk units located in Greece, Houston and Singapore. Together with our 3 sister units in Hamburg, we cover all technical disciplines which are relevant for vessels in operation and their needs.
We deliver technical support services to internal and external customers world-wide. The department is overall responsible for DATE/ Technical helpdesk and Remote Surveys. The SOLAS & Load Line team in our section is providing technical support for fleet in service related to Fire Safety, Lifesaving, Radio, Navigation and Load Line.
Job description:
The main focus is on providing day-to-day assistance to external customers and surveyors through DATE/ technical helpdesk and remote surveys.
Support in all matters related to navigation and radiocommunications equipment
Communicate with Flag Administrations in Statutory matters.
Follow developments in IMO and other international regulatory bodies.
Development and maintenance of service documents.
Support in Fire safety, Life-saving and Loadline as relevant
Position Qualifications:
Technical (preferably ship related) Bachelor or Master’s degree, or Nautical Surveyor/Deck Officer background.
Very good written and verbal communication skills in English
Preferably also several of:
Deep knowledge of SOLAS Ch. V and DNV Rules with regards to Nautical Safety,
Experience with plan approval of wheelhouse/bridge design,
Experience with plan approval of navigation equipment,
Experience with navigation surveys/sea trials,
Experience with type approval of navigation equipment,
Participation in regulatory and standardizations work (IMO/IACS/Class/ISO/IEC),
Knowledge of GMDSS/radiocommunications (SOLAS Chapter IV) is an advantage.
Knowledge of Life saving, Fire safety and Loadline
