Description

The researchers in the Crash Analysis and Prevention (CAP) unit within the Vehicle Safety division (Department of Mechanics and Maritime Sciences) at Chalmers University of Technology conduct world-leading research on topics related to traffic safety. The mission of the unit is to understand why crashes happen and how they can be prevented. This includes understanding crash causation mechanisms related to the road-user (e.g., driver) behavior as well as (e.g., automated) vehicle and environment factors.

An important application area within CAP is vehicle automation. The successful candidate for this postdoc position will be employed in the CAP unit and will take part in L3Pilot (https://www.l3pilot.eu/), the largest European project on automated driving so far. Within this project, this post-doc will work on the work-package seven, which oversees data analysis and is responsible for the preparation of the deliverables that will report the main results from the project.

Major responsibilities

The successful applicant will analyze naturalistic and test-track data from automated vehicles (including Wizard of Oz protocols). The research questions that drive the analysis have been set within the L3Pilot project. The post-doc will also participate to several meetings with the main partners in the L3Piloy project as well as to weekly meetings with the Swedish partners (Volvo cars and SAFER). The main task for this post-doc will be to support the analysis of the data that VCC and Chalmers have been collecting so far. Writing deliverables and scientific papers is also an essential part of this post-doc position.

This project will synergize with other projects ongoing at SAFER, the Vehicle and Traffic Safety Center at Chalmers and CAP. An example is the FFI project FOT-e that has been funded by VINNOVA within the FFI framework. Another example is SHAPE-IT, a larger MC-ITN project where 15 PhD students are working together to tackle human-factors issue in automation.

Contract terms

The position is full-time temporary employment. It is limited to a maximum of two years, starting with a one-year employment, followed by an evaluation, if the work is proceeding sufficiently well the employment will be extended for a second year.

The position is scheduled to start in January, 2021.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position as PostDoc, you must have been awarded a doctoral degree in engineering, preferably within the last three years from the time of employment. The position requires fluent verbal and written communication skills in English. Proficiency in programming is required. Experience from publishing articles in international scientific journals is also a must, as well as documented experience of presenting research results in front of a large audience. Education and/or experience from the following areas will be considered particularly advantageous: vehicle automation, driver modelling, statistical analysis.

Chalmers continuously strives to be an attractive employer. Equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all activities at Chalmers.
