Roustabout

Ordinary Seaman (OS) / Deckhand

Typically in the deck department of ships, this is an entry level role that is often a stepping stone to a further career in the industry and at sea.

Oil Driller

One of the best ways to get started and hired offshore is to know what you want to do, you need to have an area you’re interested in or have previous experience in.

There are a lot of different options to choose from, but once you have decided or have a better idea you can start looking into how to get hired offshore. 

Roughneck

As the name implies, this is a physical and manual labor job on an oil rig, similar to a handyman and offers an entry level job for the industry. 

Marine Engineer

For people with technical prowess and know-how being a marine engineer gives you the ability to maintain and repair ships and their machinery.

Naval Architect

One of the higher barriers to entry roles that requires architectural education, involves designing and planning of ships and sea vessels, it has a rewarding career path if you can meet the requirements.

Shipwright

This is someone who is involved in the designing and construction of ships and other vessels, it’s a specialized field that is always in demand.

Tugboat Jobs

This is a more happy medium between an onshore and an offshore role as you will get the benefits of both, there are a lot of different roles on tugboats and can fit a wide range of needs.

Pump Man
