About the position
Nord University Business School is currently looking to recruit a new research fellow/PhD student that will be one of 15 PhD students within the Marie-Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network “AUTOBarge - European training and research network on Autonomous Barges for Smart Inland Shipping”. The positions are funded by the European Commission within the Horizon 2020 MSCA ITN Programme. The researcher selected must undertake transnational mobility (i.e. move to an institution in another country within the project) when taking up the appointment. At the time of applying, you must not have resided or carried out your main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Norway for more than 1 of the last 3 years.
The position will give aspiring researchers the possibility to develop and to achieve a PhD degree and has a duration of three years. This position (ESR13) will model the economic impact of the adoption of autonomous inland shipping, taking as point of departure an Agent-Based Modelling (ABM) methodology. The PhD project will thus feed in policy implications to consider different scenarios which can create contingencies for the wide-spread use of autonomous inland shipping. To develop this theoretical model, the research will be based on a thorough empirical analysis following a case study approach, with the purpose to collect qualitative and quantitative data to feed in the theoretical model. In addition, ESR13 will involve: (1) theory operationalization through a cognitive map creation; (2) agent specification; (3) environmental specification; (4) rules establishment; (5) measurement/ data recording; and (6) run-time specification. The model will be validated and tested in collaboration with several of the industrial partners in AUTOBarge
Within two monts after employment as research fellow you must submit the formal application to the PhD program at Nord University
Business School. Your project description must by then be further developed into a research proposal, this is to be done under supervision. It is assumed that the person hired will be admitted the faculty's PhD program and follow the requirements for progression in the work.
The candidate will be required to maintain a working presence at the Business School’s main campus in Bodø, being a part of the Centre for High North Logistics, but also spend periods with partners in the project.
Qualification requirements
A two-year master's degree within the areas of innovation/ technology management, transportation economics, business administration or equivalent education that fulfils the requirements for the PhD programme at the faculty. Candidates with skills within the following areas will be preferred: supply chain management; logistics; agent-based modelling; complex systems analysis; maritime economics.
Grade average of B or better (or equivalent score) both for the programme in total and the master’s thesis.
Analytical skills and good knowledge about research methods relevant to the proposed project.
Proficiency in oral and written English is essential and knowledge of a Scandinavian language is beneficial for the position.

We offer
The annual salary for doctoral researchers (code 1017) is set at wage level 54, LR 20, NOK 482.200,- in the Norwegian State Salary Scale. Suitably qualified candidates may be placed in code 1378.
