Organizational settingThe World Maritime University (WMU) is a postgraduate, education and research university established in 1983 by the International Maritime Organization, a specialized agency of the United Nations. WMU’s mandate is to build global capacity in maritime and ocean areas. The University offers M.Sc. and Ph.D. programmes, Postgraduate Diplomas, and Professional Development Courses (PDCs) with the highest standards in maritime and oceans education and training. WMU also has a highly respected research and a strong record of publications across the maritime and ocean fields. The Post Doctorate position falls within the Research Unit at WMU’s headquarters in Malmö, Sweden.2. Main purposeIn the framework of ITF Transport 2040 research project (https://www.wmu.se/research/futureof-work) addressing technology roadmap and future maritime competencies and skills, WMU is seeking to recruit a full-time Researcher with a PhD with expertise given in Section 4 of this advert.The successful candidate is expected to develop research in the field of technology skills foresight and labour market related issues. The results of the research are expected to be included in technical reports and various communications. The candidate is expected to liaise and maintain relationships with leading international stakeholders as part of the project. The successful applicant will work under the overall supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI), as well as the Director of Maritime Research.3. Working relationshipsInternal contacts – the successful candidate will liaise and interact with relevant faculty members on a regular basis as well as with support staff when needed.External contacts – the successful candidate will be required to liaise with persons in the wider maritime transport sector within the context of the ITF Transport 2040 research project4. Duties, responsibilitiesThe Post Doctorate will be required to perform the following specific tasks:Conduct research in the field of technology skills foresight and global seafarers’ labour market under technology change;Apply methods mix-methods approach in a scientific manner for the solicitation of expert assessment;Collect, model and analyze statistical data for policy development and evaluation;Organize, and facilitate workshops and project meetings;Maintain relationships with stakeholders;Write policy-driven technical reports;Support presentation of research findings at professional conferences and meetings;Provide support for any other tasks related to the project as may be required.5. Minimum requirements – education, experience and language skillsEducationEssentialPhD in political sciences, international studies, economics, management or any other relevant discipline. Experience EssentialA proven track-record of conducted labour market related research and/or foresight related studies;Experience on translating research findings into concrete actions;Experience in contribute to communication and dissemination of research projects;A track record in research and scholarly publications in relevant fields related to this vacancy notice. DesirableExperience in planning/organizing research projects and drafting relevant research proposals;Experience in organizing conferences and seminars;Networks and portfolio contacts in the maritime domain.LanguagesEssentialFluency in spoken and written English.DesirableKnowledge of other European and UN official languages would be an advantage.6.
