Description

The division of MARINE AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING at BUILD conducts research within the field of ocean waves and hydrodynamic modelling, with particular focus on marine renewables and coastal structures. The stipend will be working in the research group “OCEAN AND COASTAL ENGINEERING RESEARCH GROUP”. The research group focus on numerical and experimental hydrodynamic modelling and design of wave energy converters and floating wind turbines, power performance assessment, and control optimization. The stipend will provide knowledge on the accuracy and efficiency of various currently present approaches to hydrodynamic modelling of renewable energy structures in offshore climates. The comprehensive investigation of these modelling approaches will benefit simulation of ocean energy structures as a whole, as both generic, benchmark structures and models with complex geometry and power take off systems are considered. Quantifying the applicability of these approaches in multiple structural/load contexts, will help develop a future basis for the choice of hydrodynamic modelling approaches meeting certain model requirements. The enrolment as a PhD student will be at the Doctoral School of Engineering and Science at Aalborg University in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order No. 1039 of August 27, 2013 on the PhD Programme at the Universities and Certain Higher Artistic Educational Institutions. According to the Ministerial Order, the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed every six months. It is a prerequisite for continuation of salary payment that the previous progress is approved at the time of the evaluation.Qualification requirements:Aalborg University is looking for a talented candidate with background in a relevant engineering discipline whoHas extensive knowledge of hydrodynamic numerical modelling of Wave Energy DevicesHas experience in teaching and supervision at University level within disciplines of marine engineeringHas experience with collaboration with the wave energy industryHas passed courses at master level in hydrodynamic modelling of wave energy devices, and courses specifically involving Computational Fluid DynamicsHas published one or more articles within marine engineering in a peer reviewed journalHas experience in analysis of large data setsHolds a master’s degreeIt is an advantage if the candidate can speak and write Danish at a high level.Candidates should have the ability to work in a team as well as independently and be good at networking. The candidates must have excellent knowledge of English (written and spoken). The application must contain the following:A motivated application (maximum 2 pages) stating reasons for applying and qualifications in relation to the positionA project descriptionA curriculum vitae including personal dataCopies of relevant diplomas (Master of Science). On request, you could be asked for an official English translation. You may obtain further information from Associate Professor Morten Kramer by mail mmk@build.aau.dk or phone 6169 7711.PhD stipends are allocated to individuals who hold a Master's degree. PhD stipends are normally for a period of 3 years. It is a prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that the candidate will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Doctoral School of Engineering and Science in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order No. 1039 of August 27, 2013 on the PhD Programme at the Universities and Certain Higher Artistic Educational Institutions. According to the Ministerial Order, the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed at regular points in time.Shortlisting will be applied. This means that subsequent to the deadline for applications the head of department supported by the chair of the assessment committee will select candidates for assessment. All applicants will be informed whether they will be assessed or not.For further information about stipends and salary as well as practical issues concerning the application procedure contact Ms. Bettina Wedde, The Doctoral School at The Faculty of Engineering and Science, email: bew@adm.aau.dk phone: +45 9940 9909.For more information of The Doctoral School of Engineering and Science: www.phd.engineering.aau.dkThe application is only to be submitted online by using the "" button below.AAU wishes to reflect the diversity of society and welcomes applications from all qualified candidates regardless of personal background or belief.AgreementAppointment and salary as a PhD fellow are according to the Ministry of Finance Circular of 28 June 2019 on the Collective Agreement for Academics in Denmark, Appendix 5, regarding PhD fellows, and with the current Circular of 11 December 2019 on the employment structure at Danish universities.Vacancy number6-21030DeadlineMon May 10 00:00:00 CEST 2021
