MASTER THESIS WORKER FOR ANALYSIS OF MARITIME SHIP DESIGN AND SAFETY IN THE CONTEXT OF SMART SHIPPING: FOCUS ON EDUCATIONAL PATHS

We are looking for candidates for students interested in developing her/his Master thesis in the analysis of needs and trends for education in the context of the design and safety assurance of the concept of smart shipping. The position is within the Research group on Safe and Efficient Marine Systems and Experience at the Department of Mechanical Engineering (Marine and Arctic Technology). Smart shipping and the services around it have started a transformation of maritime engineering research and education. In Aalto Marine and Arctic Technology, this has created active research on the development of advance/smart ship concepts and the analysis and management of the risks and overall safety linked to these concepts.

We are looking for a master thesis worker who can execute research and develop her/his master thesis in the following area: “the analysis of trends and needs in the education of naval architecture, marine technology and maritime safety management”. The work is developed as part of the project AutoMARE. The thesis covers a diverse selection of technical topics (to be discussed with the candidate) which focus on the education needed to identify the paths to design efficient and safe smart ship concepts and other elements needed for a smart maritime ecosystem.

The call is open for candidates with a wide range of backgrounds. Good understanding of the processes for ship design and ship operation is highly appreciated. A suitable background may come from mechanical engineering, marine engineering, naval architecture, industrial engineering or related disciplines with connection to engineering education. Knowledge of teaching and learning frameworks represents an advantage for this position.

Employment
The position is at the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the expected duration of work contract is six months. The salary is according to the salary system of Aalto University.
