The position will work in close partnership with the Salt Systems Lead, will report to the CTO, and have responsibility for developing the four major CMSR systems that constitute the Gas and Support Systems. Candidates with backgrounds from both nuclear and conventional industrial process industries such as oil and gas, mineral processing, pharmaceutical, etc. are welcome. The Gas and Support Systems Lead Engineer should be comfortable working in, managing and leading interdisciplinary teams of physicists, engineers and chemists, and will interface with external stakeholders such as sub-suppliers, technical partners and regulatory stakeholders.ResponsibilitiesEstablish, periodically review and improve system requirements at all levels.Develop and execute plans for developing systems and sub-systems from functions and requirements all the way to final design, maintaining schedule and budget adherence and reporting on progress.Lead and manage multidisciplinary teams of engineers, physicists, and chemists.Develop and maintain system requirements and specification documents, such as System Design Specifications.Coordinate and perform requirements verification activities, including both analysis and experimental campaigns.Represent Seaborg in contact with external stakeholders, including commercial partners, sub-suppliers, and regulatory authorities.Understand, embrace and champion the Seaborg values and engineering philosophy, incl. the desire to make a difference, dedication to safety, continuous improvement, team perspective.TASKSConceptualise, analyse and document all aspects of system designs, incl. requirements and requirements verification, process and mechanical design, component specifications.Collaborate with technical experts and other professionals within reactor physics, engineering, chemistry, prototyping and testing, procurement, business development, intellectual property, and more.Prepare and maintain project and project portfolio plans.Analyse, identify and apply relevant regulations, guidance documents, standards, etc., to mechanical and process system designs.Identify and ensure correct and effective application of applicable design codes such as ASME BPVC, ASME B31, ASTM, ANSI, etc.Provide technical direction and guidance to engineers and analysts in matters relating to process design, mechanical design, applicable design standards, safety culture, documentation, component specification, regulatory licensing, etc.Manage interdisciplinary teams in analysing and preparing deliverables such as piping & instrumentation diagrams, process flow diagrams, CAD models and technical drawings, analysis reports, system interface reports, change requests, component specifications, and more.Develop and review project plans and deliverables.Plan and lead design workshops and design reviews to establish and refine system and sub-system designs.Prepare, maintain and report project budgets.Essential skillsBachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline, or equivalent experience.Demonstrated experience in leading process and/or mechanical design of complex structures and equipment in high-temperature, corrosion and irradiation environments, or environments of similar complexity and interdisciplinarity.Documented track record of successful interdisciplinary project planning, management and delivery within time and budgetary constraints.Considerable experience in process and/or mechanical design and design development, from requirements, through specification of design solutions, and to requirements verification and design documentation.At least 5 years of relevant experience.Desired skillsExperience with the System Engineering process of system development.Specialist competences within pumps, control valves, heat exchangers, gas compressors, instrumentation or similar process equipment.Previous experience with nuclear reactors, nuclear handling process systems, radioactive waste handling systems, or similar system design is highly desired.Previous experience with regulatory licensing in the nuclear, process, energy or maritime industries.QUALITIESDesire and capability to lead and manage teams, and personality/preference traits that lend themselves thereto – that is, penchant for e.g. leadership, management, organisation, administration.Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment; detecting and resolving conflicts between projects objectives, working proactively and sometimes independently to solve problems, making realistic assumptions and solid design decisions from holistic considerations.Analytical, with ability to use introspection and reflection as effective technical and management tools.Reflected around the concepts of ownership, responsibility, accountability, leading by example, project and technology risks, safety.Capable and willing to speak up and raise opinions, especially about potential pitfalls and concerns.Team player able to interact with, listen to and understand specialists and managers in a wide variety of technical disciplines.
