The Supply Division oversees the procurement and logistics, including transport and warehousing, of strategic and essential supplies for children of some $6 billion annually. The Insurance Unit, in the Financial Management Centre, manages the insurance arrangements for all supplies in transit and in UNICEF warehouses and advises on risk management and insurance issues related to the UNICEF supply strategies.
How can you make a difference?
Under the guidance and supervision of the Insurance Claim Manager, Financial Management Centre, the Insurance Claims Officer is responsible for identifying, analyzing, and monitoring risks, primarily for UNICEF supplies in transit and warehouses as well as risks associated with the procurement of supplies, suppliers, and partnerships. The Insurance Officer will support the work on existing insurance policies and support the relationship with the insurance broker and underwriters, maintaining and supporting on UNICEF policy and procedures on insurance and claims processing, and assist with the development of new lines of business.
Key functions and responsibilities:
Find, structure, and maintain relevant data sources for existing and new policies.
Responsible for monthly declarations to the insurer
Analyze and build reports supporting the review if existing insurance policies.
Review insurance requirements to assess existing coverage and potential gaps.
Work with our CRM system Vision/SAP.
Support the processes of obtaining insurance cover and processing claims.
Support UNICEF Regional Offices and Country Offices on insurance related questions, including claims processing.
Understand and apply procedures and tools for insurance and claims processing. Support on application of policy and procedures.
Develop insurance-related learning and knowledge exchange activities and meetings.
Provide regular reporting and analysis of insurance coverage, claims processing and risks within the Supply Division and, as appropriate, UNICEF.
Identify proposed areas of improvement for insurance.
Coordinate closely with UNICEF Country, Regional and HQ offices, insurance issues.
Analyze and understand actuarial background data.
Support the Secretariat for the Supply Division’s Insurance Survey Board.
Participate in interagency coordination activities and knowledge sharing related to insurance.
Act as OIC when Insurance Claims Manager is not available and other relevant duties as assigned.

Education
A completed university degree (Bachelor’s degree) in Business Administration, Statistics, Economics or similar applied to the area of Maritime, Transport, or International Trade Law, and/or, similar and relevant professional experience from the insurance industry is required.
Work Experience
Minimum Two (2) years of progressively responsible professional experience including at least three at the international level is required.
Experience in commercial activities with the public or private sector in the areas of insurance is required.
Experience in supply chain also beneficial.
Experience from another UN Agency is beneficial
Experience with SAP/Vision is beneficial
Experience from the insurance industry is beneficial
Languages
Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish) is an asset
