Local Unit & Position Description:

We are looking for two hull approval engineers to join our team of world leading professionals working with safety – strength – of ship structures.
M-SA is the Approval Organization within Maritime Ship Classification and consists of Approval Centre Norway (Høvik/Ålesund), Approval Centre Germany (Hamburg) and Approval Support Centre Poland (Gdynia). The total number of employees in M-SA is around 430, with the two bigger units in Norway and Germany. The main services delivered by the Approval Centre are approval, verification, and certification services for many different maritime assets, mainly ship newbuilding, systems and components.

Department Ship Structures, Stability & Safety (M-SA-S), Høvik, is a part of M-SA and is organized into 4 sections, with two hull approval sections: Hull – Cargo Ships (M-SA-SC) and Hull – Passenger & Special Ships (M-SA-SP). We are looking for two engineers, one for each hull section.
The main tasks of these hull approval units are approval of hull structures for the respective ship types covered by each unit. In addition, we also provide technical expertise to our department for Fleet in Service, and we collaborate closely with the business development and sales force organization. All sections have responsibility for the respective DNV Service Documents (e.g. the Rules for Classification of Ships) related to their field of technical competence.
Hull – Cargo Ships (M-SA-SC) has 10 approval experts with responsibility for bulk carriers, oil tankers and gas carriers, and also Fleet in Service conversions of all ship types. The unit has a close cooperation with our approval centres in Shanghai and Busan. Hull – Passenger & Special Ships (M-SA-SP) has 10 approval experts, 7 in Høvik and 3 in Ålesund, with responsibility for passenger/cruise vessels, RORO vessels, and all special vessels ranging from small high speed composite vessels, to mid-sized fishing vessels, larger wind farm service vessels to huge crane / wind turbine installation, cable and pipe laying vessels.
Key working tasks include (but are not limited to):
Approval of hull structure
Development and maintenance of Class Rules and other similar service documents
Technical support to customers and our network of stations around the world
Pre-contract services, early concept review and marketing initiatives
Position Qualifications:
BSc or MSc within relevant disciplines (marine technology, structural engineering or similar)
0-4 years relevant experience
Knowledge about:
ship structures
FEM structural analysis
Fluent in English, written and spoken
Personal characteristics:
Strong interest in hull structures, safety, and innovation
Customer oriented
Open minded team player with a positive attitude who strive to obtain results for the team
Good communication skills
Motivated and eager to expand your skills
Flexible with regards to work tasks
Duration and conditions:
Location: Høvik (outside Oslo)
