Description

Nordic Unmanned is looking for a new Drone Cybernetics Engineer!

We have experienced a strong and continuous growth in contracts and are looking for a Drone Cybernetics Engineer to strengthen our team and meet our customers needs.

We develop drones from scratch. We develop our own core technologies such as autopilot, control PCBs, drone frames, control systems, ground station etc. and compile these technologies into drone products for the industry. We are software developers, systems engineers, drone pilots, cybernetic engineers, product designers, mechanical engineers, project leaders. Our common goal is to create a dependable product, in which the industry can trust. Working with us, you will get the chance to challenge your ability to build complex robust robotics systems using best practices from from a wide field of engineering.

You will become part of our a small and highly competent drone development team in our R&D department. Being in a small team you will be able to shape how we work and how problems are solved. As we are growing we are looking for a candidate that in time can lead others in technical development of control systems.

We are looking for a cybernetics engineer which have previous experience working on real robotics or vehicle systems. The position will require physical dynamical modelling, application of mathematical modelling, understanding of sensors and their failure modes and biases and implementation of the resulting systems in C/C++/Rust code.

This is not a software developer position, but being highly competent in implementation of control systems on real systems still requires good knowledge of implementations of numerics, linear algebra, and state machines. We have a team of software engineers that will help you with the frameworks to make cybernetics development easy, but we still expect our cybernetics engineers to work full stack in the sense that they have to develop the final core cybernetics components running on the embedded system.

We offer a unique position. You will get to work with real life robotics systems, developed from the ground up, every day. We model, we code, we simulate, we fly, all in one day. You will be working with the team behind the Staaker drone, which is now focusing on industrial systems.

The position will involve work from home office during the Covid 2019 pandemic.

We encourage both junior and senior engineers to apply.

Skills we are looking for:

Relevant Bachelor or Masters in Computer Science, Informatics, Mathematics, Cybernetics, Physics or similar.
Experience from either professional setting or voluntary organization during studies. The key is experience with vehicle/robotics control systems development in more than just modeled problems and simulation, but real life systems.
Experience with real world robotics or vehicle control systems development.
Experience with the real world problems in state estimation when your sensors fail or have systematic errors
Experience with nonlinear estimation of attitude.
Experience with the combination of gyroscope, accelerometer, magnetometer, barometer and GPS to estimate attitude and position of a dynamic vehicle.
Experience with implementing numerical routines.
Experience with implementing discrete state machines for high level behavior.

It is a plus if:

You have worked with C/C++/Rust
You have previous experience working on robotics systems.
Have experience writing safety critical systems; systems where bugs have consequences outside the computer.
