The IWS Drilling and Completions Engineer is the responsible individual for all planning tasks and deliverables within their rig cluster. They are responsible for ensuring integrated technical plans developed, reviewed and delivered from the Planning function to the Prepare and/or Execution function. They will have the responsibility of ensuring primary plans as well as contingency options are understood and planned with sufficient detail to enact should they arise.
As part of the planning process, the Drilling and Completions Engineer is also responsible for holding regular and extraordinary risk meetings to review the risk profile and mitigating actions proposed for planned well operations, work closely with Cluster Planning Leaders and Applications Engineers to ensure client requirements are met while also managing Baker Hughes’s internal risk. They will act as the technical leader for individual well plans and ensures the appropriate resource requirements are known and communicated to Cluster Planning Leaders. During planning the Drilling and Completions Engineer will assist with coordination and QC of all proposed Baker Hughes deliveries.
The successful candidate will also ensure continuous improvement initiatives are developed and implemented in planning deliverables. This includes garnering feedback from the Execution function and ensuring other positions within the Planning function attend and provide feedback on methods to improve the planned operations from both a risk, quality, cost and time-savings perspective. In addition to working internally you will be the direct interface with client drilling and completion engineers.
As a Drilling and Completions Engineer, you will be responsible for:
Lead planning efforts (planning/sprint coordinator) once planning team established by Cluster Planning Leader.
Engages directly with client Project Leaders and client discipline engineers and maintains a strong professional relationship.
Responsible for driving application of and adhering to Global and local planning process requirements.
Ensure proper offset review and lessons learned are reviewed as part of planning process and incorporated into planning outputs.
Coordinate internal risk management and mitigation alignment with Product Line engineers
Deliver value to the organization through integration of technical plans, risk mitigations and performance improvements.
Review Product Line programs/deliverables ahead of submission to client.
Ensure the right Product Line engineers are in the right place at the right time during the planning process.
Drive continuous improvements in the planning process. Prioritize improvement opportunities and track progress on their close out and implementation.
Lead MOC and risk assessment process when handed back from Operations Center and arrange team of Product Line engineers to address the change management.
Identify and follow up improvements which can be made during planning. Work with Product Line engineers to address these.
Maintain regular communication with Performance Engineer to ensure improvements actions from Operations are known to the Planning Group and incorporated in planning outputs.
Ability to analyze and interpret real-time parameters (WellLink or DiscoveryWeb) as part of optimization/improvement suggestions and as required for incident investigations.
In-depth KPI analyses to challenge client well timings and ability to estimate operational timings based on work scope and experience.
Ensure all engineering activities are in line with HSE policies and procedures, and drive HSE culture by setting example through safe work practices.
Conduct business according to Baker Hughes values.
Participate in customer presentations & meetings (may include travel to other locations).
Prepare and participate in peer reviews, peer assists and other quality assurance activities related to the project.
Leading teams and directly contributing to in-depth deep dives on improvement areas or Root Cause Analysis investigations.
Prepare all technical reports related to the project including End of Well Report, after action reviews, lessons learned summary.
Comply with data management according to IWS procedures.
Keep abreast of technological and engineering process advancements through affiliation with professional societies and participation in networks, workshops, seminars and training courses
Fuel your passion
To be successful in this role you will need:
Bachelor's degree preferably in Petroleum Engineering or Mechanical/Chemical Engineering with MS in Petroleum/Oil & Gas or Well Engineering.
Proven years of relevant work experience in well construction, completions, intervention and/or optimization: the experience could include drill bits, BHA design, engineering simulations, field operations, integrated project management, preparation of programs/designs, or similar.
Experience in simulation and modeling drilling, intervention and completion assemblies and reviewing/QCing the work of others.
Demonstrated experiences acting as a leader to a peer group.
Ability to collaborate with others and extract the knowledge from subject matter experts through clear and concise communication of project needs.
Strong interpersonal skills to work well with colleagues across all businesses/cultures, achieve objectives through effective influencing, and establish credibility with senior leaders.
Excellent analytics and problem-solving, including ability to form hypotheses and move forward in the absence of complete information.
Excellent English oral and written communication skills, including ability to synthesize complex topics into clear and simple messages.
MS office suite, power BI or other analytical tools, well engineering and design software (for example: hydraulics, torque and drag, basic casing design)
Desired Characteristics:
Recent experience working in a technical function on integrated projects.
Advanced knowledge/exposure to various well operations: conventional rotary drilling, horizontal and/or multilateral wells, slot recovery, interventions, and completions
Adaptable and able to work across a broad range of applications in a fast-paced environment
Spoken Norwegian proficiency desired.
