Data Analysts within Energy Transition modeling, and Real-time data gathering and interpretation

Do you want to challenge yourself as a Data Analyst in one of the world’s leading Energy Knowledge houses through the application of new data modelling techniques, such as machine learning and AI, and build data tools to help businesses succeed?

The Roles

Rystad Energy is seeking enthusiastic and skillful data analysts with strong abilities within data science and/or algorithm development and implementation to join our Analyst Team. We are constantly improving and expanding our coverage of energy transition effects and real-time data analysis, and these new roles will form integral pieces of this ongoing development. The foundation of our products is high volume of factual data combined with sophisticated in-house data management systems and forecasting tools to model physical and market mechanisms governing global energy systems and commodity markets. In this round we are looking for three Data Analysts who will be key resources in the following research areas:

Modelling of the Global Energy Systems to complement products covering various aspects of the Energy Transition
Maritime trade flow research and nowcasting based on AIS data (ship positioning), focusing on the short to medium-term trade of liquified natural gas (LNG)
Global real-time activity collection and oil demand modelling based on large sets of real-time data sources, including satellite imagery and toll-road passages

The positions will be located at our headquarters in Oslo.

Tasks

Translate client needs into technical requirements together with Product Managers and Analysts
Build systems for capturing, structuring and storing large amounts of relevant data, including building of SQL databases, daily data gathering and storing processes. Data gathering is often done through developing Python scripts for gathering publicly available information
Develop models and simulators using system dynamics, machine learning, multiple regression and other types of modelling techniques and statistical methods
Participate in the general research, product development and client-facing activities of the respective product teams

Experience and skills

We are looking for motivated candidates with a strong academic track record, analytical mindset and software development skills to strengthen our capacity within in-house modelling.

University degree (Master) within Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics, Physics or similar
Experience with and/or a strong interest in developing algorithms and scientific programming
Demonstrated knowledge of Python and/or C# is important
Demonstrated knowledge of database design and SQL programming is an advantage
Knowledge of machine learning techniques is an advantage
Experience within one of the areas of energy systems modelling, commodity trading, AIS or oil demand modelling is a plus
Experience with and/or strong interest in applying data science to commodity markets is a plus
